GROW and PRESERVE.
TOGETHER.
Who I Am
Just a guy in my mid-40s with a genuine love for the place I live, a passion for city planning, and a strong belief in the importance of public service.
Why I’m Running
I want to do the work it takes to build our city, preserve its historic character and natural beauty, and bring our community together.
I volunteered to run this year because I’ve been involved with the city since 2020 on the Planning, Architecture, and Zoning Board (PAZB), so I pay close attention to what’s going on around town and how people are thinking and feeling. Like the other candidates, I’ve heard that oftentimes the plans, initiatives, and strategies for the future of Avondale Estates, which I am directionally supportive of and generally excited about, aren’t communicated widely or clearly enough for residents and other constituents to understand.
I believe my skill set as a professional communicator lends itself well to helping support a constructive and productive relationship between the residents and city management, all of its citizen board members, its business community, and everyone else who spends time in our community to go to school, work, shop, or simply enjoy our beautiful parks and recreation.
With that in mind, I also think it’s incredibly important to have a contested local election to bring more awareness and open discussion to what our city government does, what they want to do, what the board of mayor and commissioners (BOMC) does and can do, and what all of that means for each and every one of us.
I’m excited about being out there alongside a diverse slate of candidates from our small but unique city, giving more people a chance to feel heard and be involved in the local government process.
Why I’m Qualified
I have 20+ years of professional experience in journalism, communications, public relations, and market research/data analysis across commercial real estate, travel and hospitality, advertising, technology, and corporate governance.
It’s my job to listen, and then to repeat back what I’ve heard. I’m curious, thorough, and detail-oriented, known for my ability to process complex information, see all sides of an issue, and communicate in a way that’s clear and easily understood.
I’ve read every word of the city’s zoning code and advised the BOMC on its adoption in 2021. I’ve been the Chair of the PAZB since 2022, and our record in that time shows a detailed, deliberative, and fair approach to variance requests. I would bring that same neutral, open-minded, collaborative, and empathetic energy to a role as Commissioner.

What You’ll Get from Me
You’re going to hear a lot of the same things from the other candidates: “I love living in Avondale. We have to celebrate our history, preserve its natural beauty, build smart in the downtown area, and keep taxes as low as possible.”
I agree with all of that, and you’re going to hear it from me too.
If I’m elected, Avondale Estates will have a Commissioner who approaches all of these common goals with relentless positivity and optimism, and my first instinct is to say “yes” to ideas and explore all angles and possibilities in order to make informed decisions.
We’re indebted to the history of our city and everyone who has been here to build it into what it’s become. I’m also looking forward to how many years I’m going to live here. I want to welcome new residents and invite our surrounding neighbors to enjoy what we’re creating. I want to play an active role in investing in our shared future and shaping this vision of community for my family, our neighbors, and the greater Atlanta area.
If that sounds like someone you want representing your interests, vote for Dan Marcec on November 4.
