About Dan Marcec
I’ve lived in Avondale Estates at 1052 Clarendon Avenue since May 2017 with my wife Lindsey. Our dog Lola (9, spotted Pointer mix) and son Theo (7, human) joined us in 2018, and we added Lucy (3, Australian Cattle Dog) in 2023, and Buster (4, Boxer/supermutt) in 2024.
I’ve served on the Planning, Architecture, and Zoning Board since 2020 and as its Chair since 2022. Lindsey has been a member of the Tree Board in the past.
I work remotely full-time, so I’m in the community all the time. Every. Single. Day.
I walk Theo to The Museum School through Willis Park. I’ve run and biked past every house on every street in the city. Lindsey is on (multiple) tennis teams at ASTC. Theo is a Tidal Wave and an avid diving-boarder. I take our dogs to the Lake daily. I go to Switchyards to work. We patronize our local businesses several times a week (hello Book Bird, My Parents Basement, Banjo, and Lost Druid, especially!). I play guitar and sing in multiple bands that have performed all over town.
I love everything about living in Avondale Estates — its historic character, beautiful parks and greenspace, quiet and safe streets, welcoming friends and neighbors, and community commitment to nurturing local businesses.
I’m also super excited about the growth, development, and connectivity in the downtown area that’s happened since I moved here nearly a decade ago, and I’d like to see it continue. I believe it’s a huge benefit for our residents and a model for a modern urban enclave, and I’d like to see the vision through.
I’ve lived in about a dozen different neighborhoods around Atlanta, Athens, New York City, and Nashville, and none of them have come close to matching the balance we have between top-class commercial amenities and comfortable residential lifestyle. That’s why I’ve already lived here three times as long as I have anywhere else in my adult life, with no plans to leave.
That said, I recognize it’s a challenge to balance costs (and taxes) and other tensions that inherently come with change and growth. I chose this last picture of our family at Avondale Lake as a metaphor for our reality. Life is beautiful, but imperfect. And we’re all just trying our best.
I don’t have all the answers, and none of knows what the future holds. I’m running because I care, and I’m willing to put in the work. Elected or not, I’m committed to being involved in the Avondale community, for now and for the future.
I look forward to meeting many more of my neighbors and getting to know you all during the campaign and beyond. See you out there!
